How To Clean Potentiometer On Dunlop Crybaby

  • Some fraudsters accept compromised TGP accounts have in the past few days. They have scammed members in the Emporiums by creating ads with stolen photos and requesting Paypal F&F or Venmo exclusively for payment.

Nosotros take these issues seriously. We've fabricated security changes that I don't desire to detail here to stop them. However, the all-time manner to prevent this is for members to practise proper password hygiene (which I'll item below), turn on ii-factor hallmark, and -- I implore every unmarried person hither -- only utilize payment methods that take buyer protection. Unfortunately, we cannot control how members do deals. It is heartbreaking to meet that the lure of saving some money volition notwithstanding fool people into using those methods to salve a few dollars. In today's earth, that is fake confidence you can no longer afford.

Every business relationship that I've restored so far to the original owner was using compromised passwords. Talking to ane member as I am working through getting his account back in club, he informed me that his Apple tree countersign managing director had been compromised and made bachelor on the dark web.

None of the accounts compromised were using 2-gene authentication.

We have forced email revalidation for all members that have not signed on for a while. We highly recommend every member reading this change their passwords as a precaution. We want to highly recommend that members turn on and use TGP's two-factor authentication pick.

Nosotros take opened a discussion thread in the Pub department discussing this.We volition include a very detailed countersign checklist.

My Voice Clyde McCoy was sounding great until final week. The sweep is terribly scratchy. How exactly do I clean it....or should I look into a replacement?

You lot can try contact cleaner or some sort of machine lube...the pots go regularly on that type of wah...I recall on my old McCoy my pot lasted about a yr before information technology started to become scratchy. I replaced it with a Fulltone pot and the problem was solved. It'south only nearly a $12-$15 fix if yous tin can solder. Allow me know if you lot decide to do information technology yourself...I'll practice my best to assistance you lot out.

I've used a spray called "Blue Shower' that I got from StuMac.com years ago. Works on anything that is electronic and moves. ( guitar switches, pots and such )

Some of those pots are sealed, and you tin can't get any cleaner inside. I would replace the pot. The fulltones are a great upgrade, and information technology is a pretty easy replacement.

If y'all really like the sweep of your pot, information technology can be re-congenital. I've been very successful at rebuilding pots for wahs and EB Volume pedals.

Too another recommendation for Caig Deoxit. That stuff is nifty.

DeOxit is the right stuff. Many wah pots are sealed and demand to exist removed and pried open to clean. This introduces several ways to kill the pedal or pot if you klutz information technology. You might too bank check that a capacitor has not failed allowing DC onto the pot. This volition cause a scratchy noise that no amount of cleaning or pot replacement volition cure.

I'g not very handy with a soldering iron...I'm thinking I'll hire the local tech to supplant it w/ a Fulltone. I imagine information technology's an upgrade from the Vox as opposed to a replacement?

Maybe I'll attempt Deoxit offset, just in case...

Attempt out the Deoxit first, merely know that sometimes this volition only piece of work for a few weeks and then you'll take the problem again. Unremarkably when this happens, the pot ultimately need to exist replaced in my experience. Also, it is a major upgrade from the cheap pot that'due south in the Phonation. You'll exist very happy with the Fulltone.

Too, pots volition wear out.

Replace information technology.

The Dunlop Hot Potz II is IMO the best replacement pot on the market. (Better than the Fulltone IMO.) It's a different construction from a standard pot - I'm not 100% certain since they're sealed and I've never opened one up, but from what I understand it's a ceramic track, specifically designed for maximum life expectancy.

BTW, I'm a professional repairer. I've tried on endless occasions to make clean the pots, fifty-fifty past dismantling them completely and going to a lot of trouble (I just don't like to throw stuff away if it tin be stock-still) but trust me - it isn't worth the effort to try, and I long since stopped. The problem is non usually clay, it's track habiliment - no amount of cleaning it volition assist when the runway surface is worn. Contact cleaner may assist lubricate it for a short while but then you lot'll be right back where you were. This used to cause me trouble when I would 'set' one, then the problem would come back after a week or two and the customer would (rightly) question whether the job had been done properly, and I would have to replace the pot anyway.

Since I've been using the Hot Potz IIs I oasis't had a single one come back.

Besides another recommendation for Caig Deoxit. That stuff is corking.

Sure.
As we all know, EB Book pedal and wah pots are sealed and then first, they must be carefully taken apart. What y'all'll encounter in many cases is a decent amount of what looks to exist pencil pb remnants lying in the pot casing.
That needs to be cleaned out. Next footstep is to examine the wiper block for clothing. Usually if the pot is scratchy, that block of conductive material has worn to the point where it's 'cradle' is now touching the resistive strip on the pot. Non proficient.
Sometimes its possible to lift the tensioned wiper assembly, remove the block, then supplant it turned 180degrees from information technology'due south original position.
Doing this allows a new section of the block to make contact with the pots resistive strip and essentially doubling the life of the pot.
If the block is all the same adhered to the cradle, every bit they often are, and removal is not possible, you lot'll demand to completely disassemble the pot.
Most would not go this far and opt instead to but buy a new pot.
I personally hate waste matter and volition not throw annihilation away unless information technology's admittedly washed so, I have come up a way to completely rebuild those pots for those who find they're sweep unique and irreplaceable.

1st time affiche. After lots of research, I recently purchased the Fulltone Clyde Deluxe wah, thinking it was a bulletproof selection. This matter is practically new, possibly 2 months old max, and I've only done rehearsals (like 3-4 a week) indoors, w one outdoor gig so far, and I'm already having the same "scratchy" audio that everyone else is having w their older wahs...

I must admit I'm an electronics newbie, and haven't done anything to information technology yet, apart from plug in to the wah (on battery ability) and work the wah pedal in earnest for like 20-30 minutes at a fourth dimension, which seems to really work out the scratch to some degree... but later the scratch e'er returns.

I purchased some DeoxIT D5 (which recently arrived), but haven't applied any to it yet, having read all the posts about sealed pots and whatnot. I simply don't want to arrive the weeds trying to dismantle anything I'm non familiar with.

2 more facts for consideration. When the Clyde Deluxe came in, I used it with my Furman SPB-8 pedalboard, using the power from the onboard power supply. second, the i outdoor gig, was cutting curt by rain, although zip got soaked, there was dampness in the equation for the pedalboard. All I desire is the "Scratch" to stop.

Any help comments are appreciated.

The right De-Oxit production to utilize on pots is called FaderLube.

At the run a risk of being accused of hijacking, what do y'all guys use to lubricate the wah machinery? My wah has developed more squeak and creak than a bed in a cheap motel on a Saturday night.
  • #xix
I utilize white lithium grease on the pot gear and on the dorsum of the rack gear that slides up and down. You tin can usually find a small tube of white lithium grease in the automotive parts dept at Walmart.
Notwithstanding, in my experience most of the time the sqeaking is acquired by the strap that goes over the axle that controls how easy the pedal moves up and down and keeps the pedal from dropping under its ain weight. That strap is adjustable. There is usually a screw with 1 or 2 basics on it coming through the inside of the pedal next to the battery. That screw sets the amount of force per unit area the strap is putting on the beam. Loosen the nut(southward) a tiny flake (maybe ane/8 to 1/4 turn) and run into if the squeak goes abroad.
